INNOCENCE´93 (2025)

TYPA Center / Tartu

Innocence ’93 is based on a series of drawings made in 1993, at a moment when the artist’s visual language, sense of the body, and relationship to desire were still forming.

The drawings return to a time before clear identities, before fixed positions — a space of looking, projection, and vulnerability. Rather than nostalgia, the work approaches that moment as a raw and unresolved state: innocence not as purity, but as exposure.

The project exists both as an artist’s book and as an exhibition-based work.

In the book form, the images unfold through a hand-bound drumleaf structure, emphasizing rhythm, repetition, and physical closeness. In the exhibition version, the same material expands into space, shifting the experience from intimate reading to bodily presence.

Innocence ’93 reflects on how images of the body are formed, remembered, and re-read over time — and how early images continue to shape later ways of seeing.

The drum-leaf artist’s book is published in a limited edition of 10 + 10 copies, with two cover variants: Natural Linen and Burgundy cloth, plus 2 artist’s proofs
